So I went for a run after a kind of weird day for me and my little head. And it has come to my attention that I am ready for Autumn. And even Winter.
I cannot explain the amount of joy he poured out all over me, just by simply running. He makes it all so much brighter and makes me feel so much more full, than a run without knowing him would be. Autumn in Christchurch is so beautiful. I am kinda in awe of how much he’s given us. How lucky we really are. Knowing he’s given it, makes it so much more special.
Summer is wonderful right, and I love how when I went for runs I literally heard kids jumping in swimming pools, the sun was so hot on my face, and there was that warm summery smell in the air. And the clouds were brightest blue.
Running at dusk last night sealed the deal for me – I’m in love with Autumn. He was behind each and every brightly coloured tree changing from its brightest green to red. He was behind the sun setting, and it streaming through the archway formed by the branches of the trees, its light delicately hitting the steps. He was behind the crisp nip in the air, tickling at my nose and fingertips. And even in the first few chimneys letting their first puffs of smoke drift into the cool air.
He is behind an awful lot more than we realise sometimes. Even in the things we hate, I can assure you he is at work to bring good out of it. If we open our eyes, we see, even in tragedy, the tough stuff, in the change from warmth to cool times of our lives – he’s there. He’s at work. His purpose is always greater.
His being there in no way depends on what season of life, good or bad. His being there is more the fact that there will inevitably be different seasons and he will talk, move, and show himself to you differently in each.
Question is. Have we decided we don’t like a particular season and shut our eyes to his work and even his love – because its different to a supposedly ‘better’ season? He is relentless, He is always always at work on you, longing for you, calling you, offering more grace and love to you. Just not always in the same way. Seasons change. And he has more blessings to pour on us than we can handle, but we need our eyes to be open to be looking further than whats going on around us. We can’t shut down because something bad has happened. He is God.Which implies he is somewhat bigger than what we are. He is more than capable to work IN the season no matter what it is. Open your eyes. There you shall find him. Perhaps in a different light. And that – is ok. It’s all part of your journey, with your Papa.
